time

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “It is from the excellence of (a believer’s) Islam that he should shun that which is of no concern to him”.

[At-Tirmidhi].

Commentary: This hadith lays down a very important principle that one should avoid senseless talk & action. If one acts upon this principle, he can save himself from many sins & evils. [Riyadh-us Saaliheen
Book 01, Chapter 05, Hadith 67].

In addition, it can save one alot of time because many things that we talk about we find out it is of no importance in regards to the progress of lives. And it is through such that we mostly fall into the sin of backbiting & uncovering faults.

We ask Allah (swt) keep us aware from all things that do not concern us, ameen.

“And hasten towards forgiveness from your Lord, and to Jannah as vast as are the heavens and the earth; prepared for Al-muttaqun.” [Q3:133]

“Those who spend (benevolently) in prosperity as well as in adversity, and those who swallow (their) anger and pardon men; and Allah loves the doers of good (to others). [Q3:134]

Importance of patience;

“Patience is a virtue”, a common phrase. But how common is this virtue? How common is patience? Clearly, not very common.

Allah asks us to run, to hasten towards forgiveness, towards jannah and Allah compares the expanse of jannah to that of the heavens and the earth together and He-mighty and exalted is He- says, all this is prepared for ‘Al-muttaqun’.

Further more, He describes the qualities of these people. They are those who spend out of their wealth, time, enetgy and all provisions, when it is easy and when it is difficult. Those who SWALLOW THEIR ANGER and PARDON MEN, and Allah emphasizes the goodness in this, “Allah loves al-muhsinin(those who excel in the religion).”

What is patience?

According to Ibn Qayyim, “the original meaning of this word is: “to prevent and to subdue or arrest.” Thus, Sabr means to restrain the soul from worry, control the tongue from complaining and restrain parts of the body from striking the face, tearing the clothes and so on.”

Patience in the Qur’an;
وَاصْبِرْ نَفْسَكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُم
“Restrain yourself with those who call upon their Lord.” [Q18:28]
فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ
“So, beautiful endurance is most becoming.” [Q12:18]َ

…on patience;
Al-Junayd bin Muhammad was asked about it and his answer was that it was: “to swallow bitterness without showing any sign of a frown.”

Abu ‘Uthman explained the word as-sabbaar as; “a person who has trained himself to meet any adversity.”

Finally;
Its important to note that Allah says *swallow anger*, food for thought.

A glimpse of this virtue, patience. Have you got it?
