☆Qur’anic Gems☆ Day 7. Ramadhan 1435

Surah Al-Anaam, Verse 54:

When those who believe in Our Ayat (verses, signs, etc.) come to you, say: “Salamun ‘Alaikum”; your Lord has written Mercy for Himself, so that, if any of you does evil in ignorance, and thereafter repents and does righteous good deeds (by obeying Allah), then surely, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

“your Lord has written Mercy for Himself”, meaning He has obliged His Most Honored self to grant mercy, as a favor, out of His compassion & beneficence [tafseer Ibn kathir]

Surely, when we think of Allah’s mercy, we can’t help but fight back tears. He is the Creator of all of us, He has the freedom of doing what He wants with us, & yet He (swt) chose to show us mercy beyond human comprehension. He is Ar-rauf, (Most kind) A-wahhab (The bestower), Al-lateef (The Most subtle) to list but a few.

He is the one who will always accept the repentance of the sinner up until the time his soul reaches his throat, the one who for every good deed double it by 10 but doesn’t do likewise with a sin (6:160), the one who is more merciful with His slave than the mother of the slave, the one who gave us the Qur’an, the ultimate source of guidance.

In order to understand this amazing concept the prophet (saw) informs us that “Allah has divided mercy into 100 parts, & He retained with Him 99 parts and sent down to earth one part.” [Al-bukhari]. Subhanallah! Have we ever heard of such mercy?

“Say: “In the Bounty of Allah, & in His Mercy (i.e. Islam & the Quran); -therein let them rejoice.” That is better than what (the wealth) they amass” [10:58].

May He gift us with more from His ‘Gems’ & make of us of those who live with the whole Qur’an, in heart and in mind, ameen.

☆Qur’anic Gems☆ Day 6. Ramadhan 1435.

Surah An-Nisa, Verse 174:

O mankind! Verily, there has come to you a convincing proof (Prophet Muhammad SAW) from your Lord, and We sent down to you a manifest light (this Quran).

Allah (swt) describes the Qur’an as a ‘manifest light’ for indeed it is the light of ultimate guidance. Without this light, we would have been wondering about in utter darkness, not knowing who Our creator is & for which purpose we were created, and would have destroyed ourselves in following what other humans do.

“Indeed this Qur’an guides to that which is most just & right…[17:9]

But How do benefit from this light? Are reciters of the Qur’an assured of this light?, “We can gain that by understanding the word of Allah” the ultimate purpose of sending down the Qur’an.

“(This is) a Book (the Quran) which We have sent down to you, full of blessings that they may ponder over its Verses, and that men of understanding may remember.” [38:29]

Let’s aim to make maximum use of this blessed month by understanding what we recite in order to find guidance for our souls & increase our faith. Let’s change our perspective of the Qur’an as an ‘ajr book’ (book of rewards) to that of a guidebook on how to live in this world. And then, we would truly find ourselves enveloped by the light of Allah, in shaa Allah.

May He (swt) gift us with more from His ‘Gems’ and make of those who live with the whole Quran, in heart & mind, ameen.

☆Qur’anic Gems☆ Day 5

Surah An-Nisa, Verse 1:

O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), & from him (Adam) He created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], & from them both He created many men & women and fear Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), & (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever an All-Watcher over you.

To He Who is Our originator, Our founder, Who created us and fashioned us into our different forms, to Him, subhanahu wata ala, we owe our utmost submission. Indeed it is an amazing that we are created, while before that we were nothing, & we openly disobey the commands of Our Creator.

“How can you disbelieve in Allah? Seeing that you were dead & He gave you life. Then He will give you death, then again will bring you to life (on the day of resurrection) & then unto Him you will return.” [2:28]

“Does not man see that We created him from Nutfah (semen drops)! Yet behold! He (stands forth) as an open opponent.” [36:77]

Subhanallah, He being The Most merciful records these verses to serve as reminders.

Let’s strive to obey Allah (swt) by following His commands & His messenger, (saw). Let obeying Him drive us to have taqwa (God conciousness) of Him wherever we find ourselves, for indeed He said: ‘Surely, Allah is Ever an All-Watcher over you”.

“O you who believe! Have the taqwa (conciousness, fear) of Allah as it is His due right. And do not die except in a state of islam (as muslims) [3:102]

May He (swt) gift us with more from His ‘Gems’ and make of those who live with the whole Quran, in heart & mind, ameen.

☆Qur’anic Gems☆ Day 4

Surah Aal-e-Imran, Verse 190-191.

Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding. Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): “Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.

Indeed for those who ‘think deeply’, are signs in everything, for He did not create anything, in the earth in ourselves, (51:21) or make anything happen except with due knowledge & purpose.

Let’s live with Allah in our hearts, not on our tongues. Nothing was created on this earth or in the heavens without a purpose. The breath-taking sky, the winter snow, the day-long rainfall, the beautiful gardens, the fruits of different colours & sizes, tasty to those who eat …indeed, all these are pointers to Him , pointers to His oneness, and stops for us to remember, reflect and increase in our conciousness of HIm.

Likewise, nothing in our lives happens without a reason. Not the sadness, the happiness or the afflictions. They are all from Allah for a particular reason. They are lessons for us to grasp and to live with. Lessons for those who remember Allah, for verily, those who remember Allah will see aright. (7:201)

May He (swt) gift us with more from His ‘Gems’ and make of those who live with the whole Qur’an, in heart and in mind, ameen.

☆Qur’anic Gems☆ Day 3.

Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 219

And they ask you what they ought to spend. Say: “That which is beyond your needs.” Thus Allah makes clear to you His Laws in order that you may give thought.”

When we think about worldly poverty, our hearts melt with pity at the increasing figures. The amount of muslims around the globe in need of financial assistance are indeed too many. But likewise, we do have rich muslims everywhere around the world, alhamdulillah.

Allah (swt) described what we should spend as charity: “that which is beyond your needs”. Subhanallah, imagine the amount of poverty that would be curtailed if we all abided by that! How the muslim ummah would flourish! Shouldn’t we ask ourselves before getting anything: “do I really need this”? Do I really need that extra abayah? That super expensive jewelry? That lavish wedding? Shouldn’t  we spend for the sake of Allah with certainty that Allah would never waste the reward of the Good doers (Q9:120)

Let’s spend for the sake of Allah (swt) and abandon all extravangancy, for indeed the extravagant is the brother of shaitan (17:27). By Allah the muslim ummah is at a state of catastrophe. Here in Northern Nigerian, we know of many families who share one room because of been displaced from their homes, and others can’t even find one room. Let’s respond to appeals from organizations commited to helping such people please.

“And gives his wealth, in spite of love for it” (2:177)

“Who is it that would lend to Allah a goodly loan so that He may multiply it to him many times?” (2:245).

May He gift us with more from His ‘Gems’ and make of those who live with the whole Qur’an, in heart and in mind, ameen.
