As humans when we love one another we are willing to go to great lengths for them. Sometimes things that do not even make perfect sense. Then why not Allah? When He is the one most deserving of our love.
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Undoubtedly love of Him leads to submission and obedience to Him, seeking His pleasure, doing one’s utmost in worship of Him and turning to Him. This is the best and strongest motive to do acts of worship. Even if there were no commands and prohibitions, no reward and punishment, one would do one’s best and devote one’s heart to the true God.
Therefore one of the salaf said: Loving Him motivates me in such a way that is even stronger than His commands. And ‘Umar said concerning Suhayb: Even if he did not fear Allah, he would not disobey Him…
We are always of the thought that worshipping Allah is a burden, or perhaps we want something from Allah therefore we pray our Salah on time, fast, give charity etc.
How about this Ramadan we worship only because we love Allah. We act as selfless lovers and not focus our worship for something in return.
Increase your love for Allah and He would love you- What better achievement compared to Allah’s love? : «When Allah loves a slave, He says to Jibreel, “I love so-and-so, so love him”, so Jibreel loves him and then calls out to the people of heaven, “Allah loves so-and-so, so love him”, and the people of heaven love him, and then acceptance is placed in the Earth for him».
