15. This Ramadan. . . Guard Your Eyes and Ears

The basics of fasting is to abstain from eating, drinking and relations with our spouses.

In this century, we have television, radio and the grand master “social media.”
Making it easier for us to see or hear things that are unnecessary.
Many of us make the mistake, where we just sit at home watching Tv stations that are not beneficial, or playing games all day long till it’s iftar time.

The thing with our senses is they form memories. Whatever we see or hear just pop up, sometimes we are just sitting, sometimes even in our salah. Not only do they form memories but they also corrupt our hearts.

Our eyes and ears are one of the most beautiful gifts given to us by Allah. To think they are even in pairs.
And we would have to account for them later!
“Verily, the hearing, and the sight, and the heart of each of those ones will be questioned (by Allaah)”
[al-Isra’ 17:36].

To make this Ramadan the best, let’s be the master of our senses and protect them.

Let’s lower our gaze, close our ears to gossips, avoid unbeneficial TV stations, avoid music, eavesdropping on people’s conversations, etc

Let us use our eyes to look at the pages of the Qur’an, use our ears to listen to Allah’s words and when we combine these senses, our hearts would be filled with Fear of Allah.
