Dearest Readers,
The countdown to Ramadan has begun. The month of Mercy, forgiveness, salvation and Reward. It is the month that every believer earnestly awaits hoping to gain Allah’s pleasure and Salvation from the fire. Ramadan is the month of spiritual rejuvenation. This is why the lives of the Sahaba revolved around Ramadan.

  Ma’ali bin Fudayl said, “They used to ask Allah the almighty six months before Ramadan to grant them long life so that they could reach Ramadan and they used to ask Allah the almighty six months after Ramadan to accept their fasting.” Preparing one’s physical, mental and spiritual self against Ramadan is of paramount importance in reaping the many virtues of Ramadan.

Abu Bakr Warraq (RadiyAllahu anhu) said; ‘Rajab is a month of cultivation, Shaban is a month of irrigating the fields, and Ramadan is the month of reaping and harvesting.’ This is to say to maximally utilize the month of the Quran, to reap the benefits, one must begin to prepare in preceding months.  The two months which precede Ramadan also have immense virtues.

Rajab is one of the four Sacred months in the Year. The prophet (Salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said; ‘Rajab is the month for seeking forgiveness, so seek forgiveness from Allah.’ It is the first of the noble months and it is in this month the cultivation is done. This is the month of Allah.

Sha’aban is the month that appears between Rajab and Ramadan. Aisha (RadiyAllahu anha) said; ‘the Messenger of Allah used to fast until we thought he would never break his fast, and not fast until we thought he would never fast. I never saw the messenger of Allah fasting for an entire month except in Ramadan, and I never saw him fast more than he did in Sha’aban.’ {Bukhari & Muslim}

Ramadan is the month that demands self-restraint and instills discipline. It is important that we enter into the month with the right mindset and spiritual readiness. It is the month in which Allah promises forgiveness, mercy and Salvation from the fire. Indeed it is the month of attaining Taqwa. ‘O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you that you may attain Taqwa.’ {Q2:183}

Abul Fath ibn Abil-Fawaris in his Dictations and transmissions and Allama Suyuti in his Jami Saghir mentioned from Hasan Basri that the Prophet (Salallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said; ‘Rajab is the month of Allah. Sha’aban is my month. Ramadan is the month of my Ummah.’ To emphasize the importance of this noble month and the two that precede, the Prophet used to say when Rajab came in; ‘Allahumma baarik Lana fi Rajab wa Sha’aban, wa ballighna Ramadan_ O Allah! Bless us in Rajab and Sha’aban and Let us reach Ramadan.’

Let the Warm up!!!

Yours Truly,
