Surah Al-Araf, Verse 164:
And when a community among them said: “Why do you preach to a people whom Allah is about to destroy or to punish with a severe torment?” (The preachers) said: “In order to be free from guilt before your Lord (Allah), and perhaps they may fear Allah.”
So Allah (swt) responded: “So when they forgot the remindings that had been given to them, We rescued those who FORBADE EVIL, but We seized those who did wrong with a severe torment because they used to rebel (disobey Allah). [7:165]
So where do we stand in encouraging the good & forbidding the evil? He The Most kind & Subtle also encourages us in the most beautiful of manners by saying;
“Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma’ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful. [3:104]
Somewhere along the line, we forgot the necessity of giving sincere advice. We do good deed but when it comes to letting others on it we think to ourselves “don’t they know what is good for them” or “well I did talk to her once about it” or “I really am very tired of talking to her” showing very little concern for their wrongdoing.
Indeed, when one loves Allah, the willingness to do it comes naturally, he wouldn’t want His beloved to be disobeyed so he will try earnestly to see that the good is done and the bad is forbidden, so that this world of ours is set aright.
We should strive in doing so, for indeed it is one of the greatest means of gaining a lot of reward that will forever be increasing as long as the person/people abide by the advice. And in it is a salvation from the misfortunes of this world for the prophet said if we don’t do so, Allah will bring about a catastrophe that will affect both those who bad as well as those who do wrong.
We implore Allah to gift us with more from His ‘Gems’ and make us of those who live with the whole Qur’an, in heart and in mind, ameen.
