2 Tips to improve your character + bonus point!

Inspired by a talk by Brother Nouman Ali Khan {may Allah preserve him}

Often times, the thought of having to become a better person as being synonymous with being ‘holier than thou’ is demoralising and need i not say discouraging.

Islam is a way of life, a religion and the Qur’an a constitution by the creator for the creation. Thus, if this constitution does not tally with the manner of the creation’s thoughts, does not consider their weaknesses and strengths, then it won’t be considered a constitution per se now would it?

Allah says,

ذَٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

This Book, there is no doubt in it, is a guide to those who guard (against evil). [Q2:2]

A constitution, a guide for those who guard against evil…

Because, islam considers these weaknesses and thus, Allah does not which to over burden us.

2 tips to improve your character;

1) Do no harm; abstain from evil deeds. The little evil deeds we engage in with our tongue like lieing, with our eyes like staring at obscene scenes or even non-mahrams, we think them insignificant. They are as the prophet-peace be upon him-said; like twigs…they pile up and soon may be our cause of destruction.

2)Do little good deeds; “never trivialise any good deed.”{Yasir Qadhi}, actions are judged by intentions the prophet-peace be upon him- said also. Hence, it isnt about the quantity of the actions but the quality of the heart. The little good deeds like honesty, generosity, politeness etc. Maybe our ticket to jannah and not the qiyaam at night or the sunnah fasts. Regardless, no good deed is to be trivialised or be a reason for our arrogance. Instead, we should focus on the little details and re-nourishing our hearts with sincerity. For if it is set right, all our actions will be set right and the reverse if it is corrupt.

Bonus Point;
What does Allah want from us?

Allah is Al-Ghani, the One who is free of need. And we are in need of everything we can get from Allah. Allah wants tonlighten for us our burden, which is why He-glory to Him- enjoins us to righteous good deeds that He may provide for us and increase us in all good thereby making us free of want.
